CML management has been revolutionized over the last decade. In 2009, Quebec\u2019s key opinion leaders (KOL) in CML, led by Drs Lambert Busque and Pierre Laneuville, came to the conclusion that the increasing complexity of CML management (growing number of TKI options, refined laboratory monitoring), coupled with the increased median survival of CML patients, called for the creation of an infrastructure that would allow a fast real-life picture of the current CML landscape in Quebec. The key idea was to collect baseline, treatment and outcome data of CML patients in Quebec by implementing a pan-provincial prospective and retrospective CML Registry.<\/div>\n

The Quebec CML Registry was officially launched at the end of 2009. The first site (hospital) to be activated was H\u00f4pital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR), a hospital affiliated to the University of Montreal, and recognized for its leadership in hematology. Other sites were thereupon activated in an incremental fashion: 10 sites by the end of 2011, 17 sites by the end of 2013. The Quebec CML Registry now profits from the participation of hospitals affiliated to each of Quebec\u2019s medical schools, and of the majority of the province\u2019s regional community hospitals providing care to CML patients.<\/div>\n

The enthusiastic participation of hematologists (and patients) across the province has led to the recruitment of more than 1100 CML patients already, which corresponds to roughly half of the total CML population in the province. Moreover, given the number of newly activated sites and the number of sites that have recently manifested the desire to join the Registry, it is realistically anticipated that this Registry will capture more than 800 CML patients by the end of 2017 (80% of the total CML population).<\/div>\n
